The Ramp Project

The Ramp project is a community outreach of The First United Methodist Church of Oswego. What began as an idea from one of our members, the project has grown immensely. The idea is to build handicap accessible ramps for members of our community who would otherwise not be able to afford one. In cooperation with ARISE of Oswego County, volunteers from FUMC and other local churches gather at our church to design and build the ramps in modules which are then transported to the site and erected. Once an application has been approved by ARISE, the ramps are installed at no cost to the applicant. When a ramp is no longer needed, a group of volunteers go to the site and remove the ramp. The parts are then returned to our church and any usable pieces are recycled back into the project. » Learn More About The Ramp Project

The Quilt Group

The FUMC Quilters was founded in 1992 as a way to help a church member recuperate from cancer. We started out making little quilts for babies being baptized and some for sick and orphaned children. Now we make all sizes of quilts and many different items to sell at our annual quilt and craft show in October. Our proceeds go back to the church as a thank you for the spacious room we were given, electricity used and the generous support of the congregation. We have also made “Quilts of Valor” to be given to families with loved ones that are deployed in the service of their country, we also make dresses and shorts for children in Haiti. We meet on Monday nights from 7-9 pm. Anyone interested is welcome to come help us use up our stash. » Learn More About The Quilt Group

The Youth Group

The Youth Group or as they like to refer to themselves- “The C.I.A.” (Christians In Action) is a youth outreach of the church with a Christ centered philosophy at it’s core. The group consists of children and teens that meet regularly at the church, they participate in activities, studies and spirited fellowship with one another. It is a time of fun and character building as they learn what it is to serve in the community and lend a helping hand to the youth of other nations. The Youth Group meets Sundays, 6:30-8 p.m. » Learn More About The Youth Group

The Worship Team

In 2009, we created a Worship Team:  the pastor, the director of music, three members of the choir, and the chair of the Altar Guild.  We have a spiritual leader and a music leader, both of whom are experienced and knowledgeable in connecting scripture with music to enhance the meaning of our worship services.  Our meetings are held on a somewhat regular basis every couple of months and we report our activities to Administrative Council. All members of the congregation who are interested in participating more actively in worship, or are just curious about our worship service, are welcome at our meetings.  We do want to involve as many people in the worship experience as possible. » Learn More About The Worship Team
